If\n you go Downtown on Saturday April 6, be prepared to either see red, or \nto wear it. The long-running Red Dress Party raises funds for the Sick \nTown Derby Dames non-profit roller derby league. Earlier that same \nevening, the Corvallis Hash Harriers will lead a Red Dress Run \nthroughout Corvallis. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Both events share a \ntradition: participants of all genders historically wear red dresses. \nHowever, the Sick Town Derby Dames recently broadened the dress code to \ninclude other \u201cfestive\u201d red outfits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYes, it is called the \nRed Dress Party, but in fact, our guests can come dressed in any red \noutfit that they feel comfortable in,\u201d said Sick Town Derby member Blade\n Maiden. \u201cSomething festive is wonderful \u2013 but we won\u2019t turn anyone away\n for choosing to wear an alternative outfit that they feel more suited \nto.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Maiden, the Dames use the proceeds to restore their historic roller rink.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis is a major fundraiser for us, and is an absolute epic blast!\u201d  Said Maiden. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maiden mentioned that \nrunners who join the Corvallis Hash Harriers during their annual Red \nDress Run receive VIP admission to the Red Dress Party. The cost to join\n the Red Dress Run is $20.00 and includes not only VIP access to the \nparty itself but plenty of beer and cider during the run, according to \nCorvallis Hash House Harrier and organizer known as \u201cWhistle While I \nJerk\u201d or just \u201cWhistle,\u201d if you prefer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Hash House Harriers \ndescribe themselves as a \u201cdrinking group with a running problem.\u201d They \nare part of an international club that hosts running events where a \n\u201chare\u201d marks the course with clues and refreshments followed by \u201chounds\u201d\n who engage in merriment as they run the course. According to Whistle, \nthe Hashers\u2019 Red Dress Run tradition started in San Diego in 1987 after a\n woman visited her friend, who happened to be a Hasher. She went \ndirectly from the airport to her friend\u2019s event wearing a red dress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cShe was not aware that \nher friend had plans to go hashing that day, and when they arrived at \nthe event (and she was absolutely not dressed for it), she was told to \nsit it out until the run was complete. She opted to do the run anyways,\u201d\n explained Whistle. \u201cThe next year, the San Diego hashers invited back \nThe Lady in Red. Hundreds of hashers, male and female showed up to the \nevent dressed in red dresses in her honor.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Red Dress Run is \n$20 and includes VIP admission to the Red Dress Party. The run starts at\n 6 p.m., but the location is still to be announced. Find the Corvallis \nHash Harriers group on Facebook for starting location and details.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Red Dress Party is\n $12 if wearing red, with Doors open at 9 p.m. It can be found at the \nTop of the Peacock, 125 SW 2nd Street. Ages 21 and over. Tunes by DJ \nHeartburn and Silpher. If you can\u2019t make it in red, cover is $20, but \nincludes a red rental from the Dames\u2019 collection.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
